Mobile Mockups Part 2

Tonight, after dinner, I decided to see what happens if I fill in the back of the previously painted Mylar with sharpie, following the outline of the paint on the side above. This allows the darks to get darker, and avoids conflict between the sharpie and gesso. I stopped coloring in some of the darker areas on the back, allowing the Mylar to change the brown to a cool grey tone.

The Mylar when displayed in the mobile format, will allow a viewer to experience both sides of the painting. These pieces also sit well within the other frames I built for the other canvases.

This is deeply satisfying. I like how each side has its own identity and pulls something different out of the composition. Now only 34 tiles to go! The other studies I'll put aside for now and will work over the next several evenings on cutting Mylar, gessoing, and outlining in pencil to prep for painting and sharpie-ing.
